Parkrun Practice

We are really excited to announce that we have signed up as a Parkrun Practice!

Parkrun is a non-profit, community-based physical activity organisation that organises free, weekly 5K events every Saturday morning in areas of open space.  There are over 1000 locations across the UK and our local Parkrun takes place at Broadwater Park.

Parkruns are not races and you can walk, jog or run.  They are open to all, including those who are inactive or have health conditions.  All events are delivered by local volunteer teams with a first timer “welcome” at every event.

The CMO and the UK Government have repeatedly emphasised the importance of being active in the fresh air for overall health. Having an active lifestyle can help improve mental health, build self-esteem and mood, improve sleep quality and energy, give a sense of rootedness and belonging, build resilience to COVID-19 and other illnesses, reduce the risk of developing many diseases and promote quality of life.

If you would like to take part, either as a runner, jogger, walker or volunteer, you will need to register once via the Parkrun Website.   To find out more about Broadwater Parkrun, you can visit their dedicated webpage here.  Please do look out for us if you come along – we would love to see you there!

Julie, one of our Care Coordinators, is a regular at Broadwater Parkrun along with retired GP Partner, Dr Karen Jones. Our Practice Manager, Emma, is relatively new to Parkrun but is planning to become a Broadwater regular!  The team is pictured alongside a couple of our patients who also take part.
