Recovering from Post-COVID syndrome
There is increasing recognition that although most people recover without any problems from COVID, for some people the recovery can be prolonged, with recurring cycles of symptoms, especially fatigue. Although the overall trend still seems to be a gradual recovery, there are still many unknowns as to why this happens, or, most importantly, what to expect in recovery.
Although it will be a while before we know the answers to some of these questions, there are still some good guidelines to follow, since post-viral fatigue is not unique to COVID; it has been seen with the SARS and MERS, the other coronaviruses that have causes epidemics in recent years, as well as viruses such as Glandular Fever and Dengue fever. Based on this prior understanding of how to recover from post-viral fatigue, the Royal College of Occupational Therapists has produced a very helpful information leaflet which we thought would be helpful to share.
