We currently cannot prescribe tirzepatide for weight management. A service is due to be launched across Surrey Heartlands in the next couple of weeks. Patients who meet the initial cohort 1 national critera (there is a phased roll out prioritising individuals with the highest clinical need, found here) will be contacted by the practice when the service has started,

If you are taking weight loss medication that you have been prescribed privately, such as GLP-1 agonists, including Wegovy (semaglutide), Ozempic (semaglutide), Saxenda (liraglutide) or Mounjaro (tirzapetide), please be aware that these medications can affect how well  your contraception or HRT works.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

These medicines may make oral contraception less effective, especially if you have side effects like vomiting or diarrhoea.

GLP 1 – agonists may also interfered with how your body absorbs HRT tablets, potentially reducing the effectiveness.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

In the FIRST instance, contact your private provider, as they are best placed to advised you quickly and accurately about how your weight loss treatment might affect your contraception or HRT.

If you are still concerned after speaking to your private provider, or if you need further advice, please submit a medical enquiry to the practice via the home page. You will need to request a medication review with a GP or Physician Associate.

BE SAFE

If in doubt, please consider using additional contraception (eg condoms) while taking GLP-1 agonist medications.

If you are on HRT and notice any change in your symptoms, please also submit a medical enquiry.
